"Becoming"

Greetings, good friends! I hope this Advent season finds you well!

I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts ...

Currently, I am listening to Mrs. Michelle Obama's autobiography Becoming. I highly recommend it, but listening to her made me wonder whom am I becoming? I am becoming the daughter of Hashem (GOD). The wife of incredible man as well as his research partner. The daughter and sister in a new family. A better cook, a more experienced seamstress, and a more accomplished knitter.

Yet, is that what most people see? I hope they do. I hope that they see that I have a heart that cares, and hands that want to serve.

However, I am sure when some see me they think that I am still a child. At 5 foot 2, I am not tall but I am a woman. There are two other women who were about my height that left a lasting legacy on our world, one was Mrs. Ellen White and the other Queen Victoria.

As an introvert, I may not always chatter especially when I am tired. But that doesn't mean I don't have things to say. Those who know me in real life know that I am passionate about history (especially making it come to life), hymns, and child brides.

As someone with a chronic illness I have to live life differently but that doesn't stop me. As Tiny Tim (from The Muppet's Christmas Carol) sings,

"Life is full of sweet surprises

Every day's a gift

The sun comes up

And I can feel it lift my spirit

Fills me up with laughter

Fills me up with song

I look into the eyes of love

And know that I belong" (1)

Its this time of year that reminds us that we belong not only to our Earthly families but also to the King of the Universe. In this Advent season, we take time to remember a virgin becoming a mother and our Savior becoming human. But how often do we stop to reflect on Hashem's guidance on whom we are becoming.
